New Piggie and Elephant Book!

The new Piggie and Elephant book coming out in June was on our radar all year!  We were so disappointed that school would be out before the release of this book.  "My New Friend is So Fun!" is now out!  I hope the kids still track it down and enjoy it this summer.  Have a wonderful summer everyone!

Final Mystery Reader on the Final Day + Last Day Fun!

The older brother of our birthday girl was our final Mystery Reader today.  He shared one of his favorite stories from when he was younger which also happens to be a story that we love: "The Napping House" by Audrey Wood.  What a nice birthday surprise for a younger sister!

Our birthday girl also shared her favorite pets with the class today.  We got to meet 2 kitties and a bunny.  With the last day being such a busy day, we were barely able to squeeze in a little desk cleaning.   There was no way the class was going to miss out on cleaning with their favorite supply... shaving cream!  This is something that they look forward to all year!

2nd Grade Field Trip

On Friday the 2nd graders had a great field trip day!  We started the day at Dushee Hills Dairy learning more about how their family farm operates and their animals.  We then had a wonderful tour of KTTC News Center.  The students loved the green screen and meeting the people they see on the news everyday.  We ended the day with a picnic lunch and playing at Silver Lake Park.  A big thank you to Chris and Pat Troendle and everyone at KTTC!

Volcanoes!

After learning about volcanoes each student made a volcano, and we erupted them today.  The pictures below detail our volcano making process!

1. First we use a paper plate, toilet paper tube, newspaper, and masking tape.  These supplies are used to make the volcano.  Masking tape needs to completely cover the volcano to make a paintable surface.

2. The second step was to paint the volcano.  The students chose between the colors black, gray, or brown.

3. Our third step was to paint the lava on.

4. The fourth step was to cover the whole volcano in Mod Podge to seal it up.

5.  The final step is erupting them with baking soda, red food coloring, and vinegar!

Final Balloon

Today we popped our final balloon since the 2nd graders will be gone tomorrow on a field trip.  Our last activity was lunch in the classroom.  We also listened to some Kidz Bop, and a few students shared their best dance moves with us!  We had so much fun with our balloons!

Mystery Reader #12

This Mystery Reader had many clues for us to work with: "I am also a Burro as I went to Lanesboro School.  I have two wonderful children.  I love helping and caring for people at my job.  I also have homework to do.  My favorite animal is a dolphin, and I would one day like to swim with them."

We have become pretty good detectives throughout 4th quarter with our Mystery Readers, and I was surprised that the class figured out pretty quickly who our reader was today.  We loved the book that our guest shared with us: "A Fine, Fine School."  Some of the students shared the events of this book with the principal later in the day to make sure that he wasn't planning to have Lanesboro students go to school on the weekends, holidays, and during summer vacation.  What a perfect end of the year read aloud!  Thank so much to Mrs. McCabe!

Bike Rodeo, Class Play, Track and Field Day

What a busy day last Friday was!  We started the day with bike rodeo.  It was so fun for the class to have their bikes checked out for summer and then take them through an obstacle course.  Our play, "The Weatherman on Trial" was a success!  All of our practice paid off!  Thank you to all of the parents who were able to make it and join us for a picnic.  The rest of the day was spent at Track and Field Day!  We were so lucky to have a beautiful day for all of these events!
